CalComp Drawing Slate II
by admin on Feb.12, 2010, under News & reviews
Point and click, click and d-r-a-g that mouse!! Let’s face it. There’s something unnatural about drawing on a computer screen by using a mouse. Sure, it can be done but it detracts from the artistic beauty and fine control of drawing, sketching, painting and even doodling! Drawing with a mouse is also more time-consuming and awkward than it should be. If you ‘d feel more comfortable with a pen in your hand, digitizing tablets are the solution. (continue reading…)
Apple’s Performa 6400 is a powerhouse of a computer. In fact, it may be a classic–since Apple recently announced it is discontinuing the Performa line. But the 6400 is not an ordinary Performa–it’s a tower of power with PowerPC muscle. And unlike most Performas, this system comes without a monitor, so you can select whatever size and resolution you wish. Our review model shipped with an Apple 15″ AV Display with integral stereo speakers, but what impressed us first was how the sound expanded to fill the room with the subwoofer system built into the 6400’s case. A convenient front volume control balances the subwoofer with whatever monitor or desktop speakers you may have and a headphone jack provides private listening. Either way, you’ll really enjoy the Performa 6400’s SRS 3D surround sound with its 16-bit, 44-kHz stereo output. (continue reading…)
Contour Design’s Contour Mouse

The Contour Design mouse isn’t very pretty. In fact, it’s odd-looking and oversized. Sure, I got the typical comments from *other* users who spied the mouse on my desk. “Ooh, what is it?,” said one brilliant observer. “Are you sure it’s big enough?,” asked one male user. “It feels weird,” exclaimed my 12-year-old daughter. Kensington Orbit Trackball

Many reviews have praised Kensington’s new “Orbit” trackball. If you’re a confirmed trackball user, you’ll probably agree.
But is it good enough to compete with the traditional mouse?
We personally believe that the trackball falls into the same category as 8-tracks or Betamax–superior technology that was defeated in the marketplace by lesser-quality, but better advertised alternatives. Not only does the trackball take less space to use on a desktop, but your fingers’ direct connection with the ball is more efficient (and potentially more accurate) than the relative movements of your hand and the ball housing on a mouse pad. Apple iMac

Don’t let the looks of Apple’s iMac confuse you. It’s not a Fisher-Price toy, though the box may fool your kids.
It’s unconventional. Made of semi-transparent polycarbonite plastic (the same kind of plastic used to make bulletproof glass) colored Bondi blue (named after the vivid blue water of Bondi Beach, near Sydney, Australia), it’s a show-stopper. Apple calls it “chic, not geek”. (continue reading…)
